“ I have heard great things about MF for years. Friends have said that it was the best sushi in town but for a long time I didn't eat fish and unlike restaurants like uchi and nobu they don't have many non fish options. Well I started eating sushi a few months ago so I was excited to finally get to try MF. I had been warned that the service and the ambiance were both fine, not great and that did turn out to be true. The sushi itself was exceptional and I appreciated the modest amount of rice that they use in their nigiri (enough, but not so much that you are filling up on rice). They lose a star from me mostly because there are almost no veggie dishes. I understand this is a sushi restaurant but I enjoy getting a few side dishes with my meal and that wasn't really an option here. We tried the vegan hot pot but it was very bland and flavorless. Favorite dishes were the signature nigiri Wagyu beef aburi, madai, kanpachi, kinmedai and shima aji. I enjoyed our dinner here but I wouldn't pick this over some of my other favorite spots in town. ”

“ I loveeee MF sushi! Great quality sushi, amazing service, cute ambiance. Definitely a top contender for best sushi in Houston. As a vegetarian, they definitely had ~some~ options for me. I love the edamame, shishito peppers, veg tempura, and a few of their veg rolls! They also had a veg/tofu noodle bowl that was so tasty and filling! Drinks are amazing here as well - I recommend the Ancho. Overall a great spot for a work dinner or date night. Great service! Wish they had a few more ~innovative~ vegetarian sushi options but overall wasn't disappointed. ”

“ This is the finest sushi restaurant that I've ever been to. Both my wife and I were blown away at the impeccable quality of the fish, the incredibly artful presentation and lighting speed at which each dish was served. The service was incredibly warm and attentive. Anthony was our server and the manager named Trina came by to introduce herself and we chatted a bit. She's absolutely lovely. This restaurant has a completely full staff from the back to the front. Everyone performs their jobs with deliberate efficiency. It's impressive. The ambiance is very nice. Tables are spaced so that you can have some reasonably intimate conversations. We both are looking forward to returning here when we come back to Houston. I can honestly say that you absolutely get what you pay for here at MF Sushi. They didn't miss a thing. It's my new Favorite. Sincere Respect to the Owners/Managers/Staff. “ Walked in with no reservation on a Friday night and was still able to get a table with a smile. The waitress was very friendly and had no issue answering questions about the menu. My old fashion was strong but smooth. The dim lighting makes this a great date night place. The cost is more on the higher side but it is well worth it! The food was fresh and everything was amazing! Looking forward to going back soon. ”

“ If I could give extra stars to this restaurant I would! This is by far the best and most traditional sushi restaurant I've been at in Houston, from the moment you walk in it is nothing short of perfection from the staff to the atmosphere the smell and one of the nicest sushi bars that I've seen. If you are there, you should try the special salmon which has a very very light truffle sauce on it, the delicate flavors and the absolute melt in your mouth fish and now onto one of the most important aspects. The rice is absolute perfection. I cannot wait to go back ”

“ I come here, and wonder why I ever went anywhere else for omakase. The first time I ate here was almost 5 years ago, but the taste is just as amazing as I remember. Highly recommend making a reservation beforehand if you want omakase, since I think they need time to prepare for it. We didn't - but we were able to get a tasting menu - which was similar to an omakase, just less extensive. Love love love their whiskey cocktail that came with a shishito pepper. Strong taste of whiskey, a bit sweet, and with a kick from the pepper. The tasting menu is pictured below - with a few exceptions like uni, tamago, and the natto roll. It is everything that I want from a traditional omakase - nigiris in their purest form. No extra seasoning, toppings, or innovative frills. My friend and I each got one set of tuna nigiris, one set of salmon nigiris, and a set of white fish nigiris. The fish was so incredibly fresh and well prepared, and it was a perfect journey through the various groups of fish - lean to heavy; light to dark. On top of that, we also got a generous portion of yellow tail and salmon sashimis - each lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the fish. The only item I wasn't a big fan of was the tamago. It was quite crispy on the edge and really tasted like a "fried egg", which is fine but because tamagos tend to be sweet, the oily taste didn't really go well with the sweetness. A surprising delight of the night was the assorted pickled vegetables on their a la carte menu. I ordered this on a whim, but it became the perfect accompaniment to the nigiris. Salty, sweet, and a great palate cleanser. Also not pictured is mochi ice cream, which they brought out for my birthday as a surprise. I didn't have high expectations for these, but they were excellent. Definitely NOT the typical mochi ice cream found at Japanese fusion restaurants. Ice cream flavor was subtle and natural with just the thinnest layer of mochi clinging onto them. Most importantly, they were not too sweet! ”

“ We had a reservation and everything went so smooth. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and got seated within a couple minutes. I'm not a huge sushi consumer but eating here changed everything for me. The food was so fresh and well detailed. Our sever Alan was amazing! He did a great job of explaining all of the dishes for us and keeping up with our table. The lychee martini was delicious so I recommend that if you're into sweet drinks! Highly recommended for a date night with the girls or even a romantic date with your significant other! ”

“ Incredible dining experience and great vibes. Our waiter was very kind and made some great recommendations. To start, I got the avocado balls and a shiso mojito. Both insanely delicious. I then proceeded to order tons of nigiri. My favorite was the Chutoro nigiri and the hamachi nigiri. I definitely recommend the chefs choice tuna sampler (came with Chutoro) and the signature Madai. The kanpachi and king salmon were also delicious. I recommend the king salmon over the signature salmon if you're choosing one or the other. I don't regret a single thing I ordered. Lots of sushi and i would always be down to go back here. ”

“ We had such a wonderful time here! Inside it is super beautiful with the hanging lights and Japanese landscape in the background. You can see the sushi chefs working from where you're sitting as well since it is an open concept restaurant. Best thing 10/10 was the lobster tempura and the salmon nigiri. The salmon was melt in your mouth good and the lobster tempura was very well done-- we even ordered a 2nd one. It is a bit pricey but that's the price you pay for quality sushi! Service was amazing, the manager checked in on us as well! Parking is a bit tight. Half of the parking lot is valet and the other half is self park. If you get unlucky, you'll have to park on the street. ”

“ Came here for dinner because why not, I've done uchi and while it's one of my all time favorite restaurants, you want to just have more a sushi purist kind of dinner sometimes! MF sushi is just that. Simple and you can really enjoy the quality of fish. I also love the option of traditional maki, it's what I love getting when I'm buying sushi from a Japanese grocery store. Often time it's the simplest of pleasures are life's treasures. I was quite full at the end!! The sashimi (chef's special) is such a great array of amazing buttery fish!!! I skipped the special rolls so I can focus on the fish today. Interestingly they did not bring rice with the sashimi, I'm sure I could've asked for it but was trying to save some room for the maki, though good to be aware of that when ordering. The gobo is one of these things I've never tried until I went to Japan. I've had it as a salad, in sushi, and fried as a topping. It has a crunch and a unique earthy flavor that I have never experienced in any other vegetables. I really recommend trying gobo at some point at a traditional Japanese restaurant. The natto is delicious but an acquired taste :) my friend tried one and wasn't a fan. Salmon maki is simple, delicious, and will never let you down. 5/5. Bonus point because they offer a hot cloth at the beginning, it's the little things that elevates the experience. ”
